NYC schools are segregated institutions of learning, plain and simple. Blacks and whites are going to different places to get educated. School chancellor faces lots of opposition, Richard Carranza doesn’t like criticism but his plan for grading remotely is stupid. Satisfactory and needs improvement will make some kids resentful of others who do as little as possible to get the pass grade. I know that as a teacher i never liked the grading system because SOME teachers like students don’t WORK as hard as I was working so I don’t think it will work NOW. What do I suggest? Remote learning is the New Wave in education so everyone needs to get on board. Oral exams is the way to GO! Forget pass fail ask questions that demonstrate child’s grasp of subjects from math to English and social studies. Easier on the teachers and the Onus is On the Students! Teachers have TOO MANY tasks to do DAILY. Oral exams are used by universities and colleges to grant Ph. D’s SO WHY NOT high schools and other grades? It’s MY opinions on the subject may be you’ll AGREE!
